I walked to the water dispenser on the wall, took out two paper cups because I noticed an old man sitting on a sofa in the corner of the office, reading a newspaper. I thought that while giving water to the manager, I should also give one to him - it was something a secretary would do. So I did it, handed over one cup of water to the manager and then gave another cup to that old man saying “You’re welcome.” He looked up from his newspaper and smiled at me.
Two days later, against my hopes for this interview not being successful, I received a call from the company telling me they had decided to hire me as their secretary. They asked me to go straight away to report for work at the CEO’s office. This phone call left me almost speechless; believing that I would become one of twenty lucky ones who would get this job was hard.
When reporting for duty at CEO's office with trepidation but excitement mixed together inside my heart and soul filled eyes with tears of joy in anticipation of what lay ahead when you walk into CEO's spacious room, you are greeted by none other than that unassuming-looking old man who sat quietly during your interview earlier. His face now radiates warmth as he extends his hand towards you with a gentle smile.
"You have made it! We believe your ability shines beyond just answering questions well," he says warmly while extending his hand towards you offering congratulations." You were chosen among many because we saw more than just answers in your actions - we saw kindness and humility."
The lesson here is not about winning or losing but about how far our actions speak louder than words ever can be!
