I walked to the water dispenser on the wall, took out two paper cups. Because I noticed an old man sitting on a sofa in the corner of the office, reading a newspaper, I thought it would be appropriate to pour him a cup of water as well when giving one to the manager. This was how I did it – pouring good water into one cup and handing it to the manager first, then pouring another cup for that old man and saying: "Here you go, please drink this."
He looked up from his newspaper and smiled at me: "Thank you, young lady."
Two days later, I received a call from the company informing me that they had decided to hire me as their secretary. The news left me almost speechless.
This story teaches us that sometimes what seems like just an ordinary task can reveal our true character and values. Giving someone else a glass of water may not seem like much but it shows our kindness and humility which are essential qualities for success in any field or position we hold.
